KNOTS
https://www.animatedknots.com/boating-knots The animation is helpful, beware the 'americanisation'. A reef knot becomes a 'square knot'.
The RYA spiral bound pocket booklet is a waste of money, covers the 5 basic 'Level 2' knots only.
Marlow Ropes 'Splicing Guide' is well worth the money, somebody borrowed mine and did not return it.
Sailing knots have been developed to be undone by cold fingers. A rescue team lengthened ropes with a reef knot, it rubbed on a rock and somebody fell. Mountain rescue have abandoned the bowline in favour of the double figure of eight. The 'figure of eight' on a synthetic string as a 'stopper' knot soon works loose [one extra turn].
